“The unassuming, currently unemployed lady from West Lothian near Edinburgh had looked shy and a little out of place as she stepped on stage.
There were even smirks on the judges’ faces when she told them, “I am trying to be a professional singer. I’ve never been given a chance before but hopefully that will change”.
Then Susan, who has ambitions to sing on stage like Elaine Paige, launched into the West End anthem I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

It just goes to show – you never know what amazing things are hiding just below the surface of the ordinary people in our lives.
This is reminiscent of the stunning first performance of the eventual Winner of 2007′s Britain’s Got Talent – Paul Potts – a mobile phone salesman.
And this girl Bianca Ryan was just 11 years old…
And 15 year old Charice Pempengco is a Filipina singer who rose to popularity through YouTube…

here you can listen to some background story about her life and how even at a much younger age than her present age of 17, her voice is already amazingly awesome. And it is this performance that impressed Oprah so much she took her under her wings. Truly a cinderalla story and this little girl never fails to thank GOD for all the great things happening to her

Thanks for this post Zen Moments. Yes, I remember Susan Boyle’s and Paul Potts’ auditions and their jouney to winning runner-up and winner (respectively) of BGT. Gave me the goose bumps too… to see amazing talent in regular people. I feel envious.
With regards to Charice, the video you should have shown is how she was actually discovered or became infamous in YouTube. This is the video (or videos, rather – two parts). The original is already gone which got millions of views but these are the same videos. She was only 14 yrs old here and a guest in a Koeran Talent show:

susan boyle awes me so much! and yes, those guys are sooooo great! and truly, they have proven that even ordinary people have their own extraordinary talents.
That little girl with a big voice? Her name is Charice and that video you just shared is the World Premier of her debut single Note to God. That performance brought down the house!
another unknown talent till her YouTube vid during her guesting in a Korean variety show soared to millions and most of them doubted it was really her coz of the voice…yes the voice!
But earlier vids of her showed what she was capable of and now Oprah took her under her wings, David Foster producing her album and Dianne Warren giving her this song for her first single.
Came from a poor family, raised by a single mom…her father is not going to be nominated for Father of the Year award. Hard life. She was also discriminated on in the many singing contests she joined coz according to them, she does not have the looks…but my GOD, her talent is incredible for a girl her age. She can move people, their emotions and then leave you with goosebumps. Her voice haunting you all day. That’s Charice. The Golden Voice. She can sing opera, pop, ballad, jazz, name it.
Muhammad Ali …suddenly breaking out in a smile (these days to smile is an effort for him)…not just once…and even stood up and make an effort to join in her performance when she stood in front of him. That’s Charice.
Yes she is and should be included in your list of Amazing Hidden Talents of Ordinary People.
