Happiness

“…inner peace is the ultimate source of happiness…”

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: A 2 minute video clip from Khashyar

“Ultimately we want happiness.

We do not want suffering – everybody – every sentient being. Now we are actually creating more unnecessary suffering.

I think it’s very important to make clear to the public – we are not talking about religion. ‘If we have more compassion, God will be pleased’ – we’re not talking about that. ‘If we, as Buddhists, have more compassion, Buddha will support us’ – I’m not talking about that.

If we are more compassionate I will get benefit. – I will be a happier person – that’s the point.

Here – one million check! – one million dollars… But here (hand on heart) no peace! That one million dollars will not bring inner peace – happiness.

This money brings more frustration, more suspicion, more anxiety, or sometimes more jealousy.

So inner peace is the ultimate source of happiness – joyfulness.

I think people do not understand that.

That’s my point.”

The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living

H.H. the Dalai Lama, Howard C. Cutler

“Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, the very purpose of our life is happiness, the very motion of our life is towards happiness.” –H.H. the Dalai Lama, from The Art of Happiness

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” — Dalai Lama
